Why you'll love it

Made for happy, healthy pets

Cheapest way into the category

At well under a tenner it is the item to try if you have no idea whether your animal will tolerate anything at all. If the tie is refused, nothing else here will land either.

Ten designs, no repeats

Skulls, candy corn, jack-o'-lanterns, purple spiders, pink ghosts and five more. The turquoise greeting and the pale skulls are the two that show against a black coat, where every other design vanishes.

Nothing to adjust or lose

One elastic loop and a printed blade. There is no buckle to set, no clip to lose behind the sofa and no size chart to read.

Good fit if

  • Finding out cheaply whether a pet will wear anything
  • Close-up photographs rather than room shots
  • Households buying for several animals at once
  • Anyone who wants a hint of costume and no more

Look elsewhere if

  • You want something visible from across a room
  • Your pet already works at its collar with a back paw
  • You need it to clip onto existing kit

It is a loop, not a clip

Most pet ties on the market fasten to the collar the animal is already wearing, which adds decoration without adding anything round the neck. This one does not. It is a closed elastic band that passes over the head, so what the animal ends up with is a second loop at the throat alongside its collar.

The elastic has no adjuster and no breakaway. It stretches across roughly twenty to forty centimetres and settles wherever the neck is widest. On a small dog that can leave enough slack for a paw to go through while scratching, which is the specific failure to watch for here.

Which designs survive a dark coat

Eight of the ten are printed on a black or very dark ground. On a black cat or a dark brindle dog they simply vanish, and you end up photographing a shape you cannot see. Only two carry enough contrast to hold up: the turquoise greeting print and the pale skulls.

On a light-coated animal the opposite applies and the dark grounds are the ones with impact. Candy corn, jack-o'-lanterns and pumpkin patch all sit crisply against cream or golden fur, where the turquoise looks washed out.

The colour dots on this page are sampled from the tie blades rather than invented, which is why six of them look nearly identical. Those six really are close in colour; the printed motifs are what separate them, so choose by name and photograph rather than by swatch.

Thirteen centimetres, whatever it is on

The blade is a fixed 13cm regardless of the animal. On a cat that is a substantial tie reaching most of the way down the chest. On a labrador it is a small flash of pattern under the chin, which some people like and others find underwhelming.

If your dog is larger than a spaniel and you want the accessory to be the costume rather than a detail, the bandana in this range covers far more area for the same money and ties to fit rather than stretching to fit.

Good questions

Before you buy

No. It is a closed elastic loop that passes over the head, so it is a second thing round the neck rather than an attachment to the first. Put it on for the photograph and take it off after.

They are close, because six of the ten are a black ground with an orange print and average out to a similar brown. The design names carry the difference; the photographs show it properly.

The elastic reaches around 40cm, so a medium dog yes, a labrador at a stretch, a great dane no. The tie itself stays 13cm whatever it is on, so it looks smaller the larger the animal.

Slowly, and that is the failure mode to expect rather than the print wearing out. Once it no longer holds position on the neck it has become slack enough to be a snag risk, and it should be retired.

Hand wash cool and dry flat. A machine cycle will stretch the elastic out of shape long before the printed blade shows any wear.
