Why filling changes the toy

Wet food, plain natural yoghurt, mashed banana, pumpkin purée or the dog's own kibble soaked to soften it all work. Pack it in and freeze it for the longest result. As with any food-holding toy, take the filling from the measured daily ration rather than adding it on top, since a stuffed toy twice a day quietly adds a substantial number of calories.
Peanut butter is the traditional filling and the one that needs a label check, because sugar-free versions frequently contain xylitol, which triggers a dangerous insulin crash in dogs even in small amounts. Read the ingredients rather than assuming, and keep anything containing it well away.
Sizing and cleaning
At thirteen by nine centimetres this is built for small and medium dogs. Size matters for safety as much as for satisfaction: a chew small enough to fit entirely behind the back teeth of a large dog is a choking risk, so a big dog needs a bigger toy rather than a harder one. If the toy disappears into your dog's mouth, it is the wrong size.
Wash it by hand rather than in a dishwasher, since repeated hot cycles harden natural rubber and shorten its life. The hollow interior is the part that matters: use a bottle brush to reach the inside properly, because rinsing alone leaves residue in there that goes rancid within a couple of days.
