RGB Accent Light Set

Ten pods, two remotes, any colour you like.

These are for lighting a tank from outside: behind, beneath or alongside. They are decoration rather than illumination, and they do not replace a main light.

Why you'll love it

Made for happy, healthy pets

Backlighting is what makes a tank photograph well

A single top light flattens everything. Two or three pods behind the tank separate the plants from the background and give the depth that overhead lighting cannot.

No cable through the cabinet

Each pod is self-contained on a cell, so there is no run of wire to hide and nothing extra plugged in behind the tank. Move them whenever you rescape.

Ten is enough to actually experiment

One accent light is a gimmick. Ten lets you light the back wall evenly, or pick out a single ornament, and change your mind without buying more.

Good fit if

  • Backlighting a tank or uplighting hardscape from outside
  • Adding colour to a display without rewiring anything
  • Rooms where the tank is a feature in the evening
  • Anyone who wants no adapter or plug to match

Look elsewhere if

  • You want to grow plants, which these will not do
  • You need something submersible, since they are splash rated only
  • You dislike replacing coin cells

Accent light, not aquarium light

It is worth being clear about what these are. They are small battery LED pods intended to add colour, which is a different job from lighting a tank. They do not deliver the intensity plants need, and they are not a substitute for a proper bar or hood light over the water.

Where they work is around the outside. A pod behind the tank washes the background and gives depth, one under a shelf edge lights the surface obliquely, and a couple alongside pick out hardscape. The effect is on the display rather than on the biology, which is exactly what they are for.

Fish and coloured light

Fish need a clear day and night. Coloured light left on through the evening extends the perceived day, and a tank that never goes properly dark is one where fish do not rest properly. Blue night lighting is for your benefit rather than theirs.

Use them for the hours you are in the room and turn them off when you go to bed, which the remotes make easy. If you want the tank lit late, keep it dim and accept that the fish would be better off without it, rather than assuming coloured light is somehow neutral.

Mounting and batteries

At thirty-eight millimetres they are small enough to hide behind a cabinet upstand, under a rim or tucked at the back of a stand. Hooks and screws are included, and it is worth planning the positions before fixing anything, since a pod pointing at the front glass produces glare rather than an effect.

Each runs on a coin cell, and ten pods means ten cells. That is the practical cost of having no adapter to match and no cables to route, and it is a genuine advantage around water. Buy a strip of cells at the same time rather than discovering the pods are flat some months later.

Good questions

Before you buy

No. They carry an IP65 rating, which covers splashes and spray but not immersion. Some sellers show these submerged. We would rather you kept them outside the glass and kept the warranty.

No, and they are not sold for it. This is accent and mood lighting; plants need the daylight-spectrum LED bar.

Each pod takes a CR2450 coin cell. They are supplied fitted, and replacements are widely available in any supermarket.

No. IP65 covers splashes, not submersion. A pod in the water will flood, and the cell contents should not be in a tank with fish.

No. They are accent lighting with nowhere near the intensity plants need. Use a proper aquarium bar or hood light over the water for that.

Check the listing, as it varies. Each pod takes a CR2450 coin cell, so ten pods means ten cells, and it is worth buying a strip of spares at the same time.
