Jellyfish Mood Lamp Aquarium Ornament

A sealed tank of drifting jellyfish, no water changes.

Nothing inside it is alive. It is a sealed desk lamp with artificial jellyfish circulating on a current, which is why it needs no water changes, no food and no filtration.

Why you'll love it

Made for happy, healthy pets

It is honestly a lamp

Real jellyfish need a specialist kreisel tank, precise flow and live food, and almost always die in home aquariums. This gives the look with nothing living involved, which we think is the right way round.

Company for a tank that goes dark

Aquarium lights go off at night for the fish's sake, which leaves a dead black rectangle. A low lamp beside it keeps the corner alive without lighting the tank.

Nothing to maintain

Sealed, so there is no water to change, no evaporation to top up and no algae. Charge it and leave it.

Good fit if

  • A desk, shelf or bedside beside an existing tank
  • Children's rooms, as a nightlight with movement
  • Anyone who likes the look of jellyfish without keeping any
  • Gifts, where a real tank would be an unfair thing to give

Look elsewhere if

  • You expected live jellyfish, which these are not
  • You want something to go inside an aquarium
  • You dislike anything with an internal lithium cell

Why real jellyfish are not a starter pet

Keeping live jellyfish is genuinely difficult. They need a specialised circular tank with laminar flow, because a normal aquarium's corners and intakes will trap and destroy them, and they require live or specially prepared food several times a day alongside precise marine water parameters.

It is a serious undertaking rather than a beginner project, and jellyfish sold as easy pets frequently die within weeks. A sealed ornament gives the visual appeal with none of that, and there is no welfare question attached to it at all.

What it actually is

A closed unit containing liquid, artificial jellyfish and a small pump that keeps them circulating, lit from below by a colour-cycling LED. The movement is what makes it convincing, since the jellyfish drift and turn rather than following a fixed path.

It is sealed, so it never needs topping up and there is nothing to maintain beyond charging it. That also means it cannot be opened for cleaning, so if the liquid ever clouds there is no remedy, and it is worth keeping out of direct sunlight, which is what causes that over time.

Charging and placement

A twelve hundred milliamp-hour cell charged over USB means it can run cordless for an evening, which is what makes it usable on a shelf away from a socket. Charge it fully before first use, and avoid running it flat repeatedly, since lithium cells last longer kept topped up than cycled to empty.

Keep it out of direct sun and away from radiators. Heat is what degrades both the cell and the liquid, and a lamp on a sunny windowsill will cloud and lose capacity considerably faster than one on a bookshelf. As a nightlight it is bright enough to be useful and dim enough not to keep anyone awake.

Good questions

Before you buy

No, and deliberately so. They are silicone, sealed inside the lamp. Live jellyfish need a specialist tank and rarely survive in a home setup.

No. It is a standalone lamp with a lithium battery inside and is not waterproof. It sits beside the tank, not in it.

No. The unit is sealed at the factory and never needs opening, filling or cleaning inside.

No, they are artificial and the unit is sealed. Nothing inside is alive, which is why it needs no food, water changes or filtration.

No. It is not submersible and it contains a lithium cell. Keep it beside the tank rather than in it.

No, it is sealed and cannot be opened. Keep it out of direct sunlight, which is the main thing that clouds the liquid over time.
