The common way to carry a tracker is a small pod on a keyring loop, and it has two predictable problems. The loop wears, or the pod catches on something, and either way the holder comes off with the tracker inside it. The owner finds out when the pet goes missing, which is the one moment the system was bought for.
Moulding the housing into the strap removes the joint entirely. There is no ring to wear through and no clip to fail, because the tracker sits inside the collar rather than hanging from it. It also sits flat against the neck, which stops it swinging and catching on branches, fence wire or a cat flap.
A metal pod knocking against a name tag produces a constant jingle. For a dog it is mostly an annoyance to the household; for a cat it is more consequential, since the noise announces the cat to everything it is stalking and some cats become genuinely bothered by a sound they cannot get away from.
With the tracker inside the strap there is nothing to knock. The collar is silent unless you add a bell deliberately, which is worth thinking about separately, since a bell is a real benefit for local wildlife even though it costs the cat some hunting success.
At 520 millimetres the strap covers most dogs and can be cut down for a smaller neck. Fit it by the two-finger rule: two fingers should slide flat underneath and no more. A tracking collar that is loose enough to slip over the head is worth nothing, and one too tight is uncomfortable all day.
Silicone is the practical advantage over webbing here. Mud, rain and whatever a dog has rolled in wipe off under a tap rather than soaking in, and it does not hold a smell the way wet nylon does. Check the housing is fully closed after each battery change, since an unseated cover is how water gets to the tracker.

The strap is 520 mm and punched with adjustment holes, so it goes down to a cat's neck, but it has no safety release. For a cat that goes outdoors, use a quick-release collar and put the tracker on that instead.
The silicone is, and it seals around the housing, but an AirTag is only splash resistant itself. It will take rain and puddles; it is not something to swim in repeatedly.
No, the collar houses one but does not include it. The 40 mm housing is sized for a single standard AirTag.
The strap can be cut down, but the pin buckle does not release under pressure. Cats should wear a quick-release safety collar, so this is better kept for dogs.
