Meat Claws, Pair

$11.99

Two dinner forks will shred a pork shoulder eventually, but your wrists will know about it. A claw in each fist puts twelve tines into the meat at once and does the job with your arms instead.

  • Two claws

Kindral meat claws in black, a pair laid flat

How to use it

Rest, pull, serve

  1. 01

    Let the meat rest

Lift the joint onto a board or tray and give it a few minutes so it is cool enough to work.

  2. 02

    Hold and pull

Grip one claw in each fist, push the tines in side by side, then pull them apart along the grain.

  3. 03

    Lift and serve

Use the claws together to scoop the shredded meat into buns or back into the juices.

Close up

Built to be held in a fist

Kindral meat claws in black, a pair laid flat
  1. Grip

Your fingers go through the slot and wrap round the bar, like holding a bag handle, so the push comes from your arm.

  2. Tines

Six per claw, long and pointed. Push them in side by side, then draw them apart along the grain.

  3. Second claw

Identical to the first. One goes in each hand, and together they lift a joint from the pot onto the board.

Claws or two forks?

Forks are already in the drawer and fine for a chicken breast. For a whole pork shoulder, twelve tines and a fist grip make much shorter work of it.

Questions

Use them on a board, not on the grill. They are plastic and the supplier gives no heat rating, so keep them off hot bars and out of the coals.

Yes, once it is cooked through and tender. Poached or slow cooked chicken pulls apart easily; a dry roasted breast is harder going.

Anything slow cooked until it falls apart: pork shoulder, beef brisket, lamb neck, chicken thighs. If the claws struggle, the meat needs longer in the pot.

No, they are moulded black plastic, light at 1.2 oz (34 g) each. That makes them gentle on the inside of a ceramic slow cooker pot.

Handy, a bit tricky to wash

Meat gets stuck between the tines and needs a brush. Otherwise they are great for shredding chicken.

Turkey thighs weeknight

Roasted turkey thighs for a weeknight dinner and shredded them for sandwiches. Quick enough that dinner was still on time.

Nice little pair

Bought them for a one off party and now they live in the utensil drawer and come out every other week.

Hands free of grease

Tbh the main thing I like is not touching hot greasy meat with my fingers.

Slow cooked chicken thighs

Thighs go in the cooker in the morning, claws come out at tea time. Takes about a minute to shred.

Dinner party lifesaver

Eight guests, fifteen minutes of rest, two minutes of shredding. Guests thought I had hours of work in.

Brilliant on pork, so so on roast chicken

Pork pulled beautifully. A dry roast chicken breast came out chunky. Poached chicken was perfect.

Six tines makes a difference

They grab a lot of meat at once because of the six long tines. Did a whole slow cooker of carnitas in no time.

Expected something sturdier

Thought they'd be metal or at least heavier plastic. They're very light and I didn't like the feel. Went back to my two forks.
