Picking papery skin off cloves with a fingernail is the slowest part of most recipes. Roll them in one of these tubes for a few seconds and the skins crack off, while your fingers stay clean.

How to use it
Break the bulb and put two or three unpeeled cloves into the tube.
Press the tube flat under your palm and roll it back and forth on the board a few times.
Tip out the peeled cloves, then shake the loose skins into the bin.
Close up

Pressing and rolling drags the inside wall against each clove. The skin grips the silicone and splits away.
Room for two or three cloves side by side, short enough to roll under one flat hand.
Wide enough for a fat clove from a big bulb. Tiny inner ones rattle about and may need an extra roll.
Compared
Crushing a clove under the flat of a knife is quick when you want it crushed anyway. The tube is for garlic you want whole, to slice or roast.
| Compared | This productSilicone tube | Flat of a knife | Fingernails |

Best on dry bulbs. Very fresh or damp garlic peels more slowly; give it a few more rolls.
Keep one by the stovetop, one in the drawer and one to give away, or use two at once for a big batch.
Two or three average ones per tube. Pack it fuller and they can't move enough against the wall to split their skins.
Break the bulb into cloves first. A whole head won't fit inside a 1.4 in (3.5 cm) tube, but three tubes, three at a time, get through most of one.

Sample, not realOur shared kitchen has nothing fancy, but this tube is the best thing I own. Quick, easy and I can wash it with the pans.

Sample, not realHonestly thought this was going to be one of those gadgets that lives in a drawer forever. Nope. It's the simplest thing, a silicone tube, but the pressure and the rolling really does pop the skins off. Dry garlic works best. A head I bought at the farmers market that was still a little moist took more rolling but came out fine.

Sample, not realGreat on the bulbs I buy at the supermarket. New season garlic from the farm shop takes a lot more rolling and sometimes I finish it off by hand.

Sample, not realDoes exactly what it should. Just wish they came in a nicer colour than plain black, they disappear in my drawer.

Sample, not realTook off a star because they're longer than I pictured and don't sit neatly in my small utensil drawer, they roll around a bit. Otherwise really good. Press down, roll it on the board and the skins slide off dry cloves. Damp garlic takes longer, which makes sense. Overall happy with them.

Sample, not realVery good with the normal sized cloves. The tiny ones from the middle of the bulb are a bit hit and miss, they sometimes come out with a strip of skin still attached and I end up picking it off with a nail anyway. Still saves loads of time overall, and it's nice not having garlicky hands all evening.
