Avocado Slicer and Pit Remover, Pair

$11.99

Most avocado accidents happen when a knife slips off the stone. This tool takes the knife out of the job: a plastic edge to split it, a ring to lift the stone, a grid to slice.

  • Two tools in the pack
  • Serrated scoop splits the skin
  • Slicing grid cuts a half in one pass
  • Folds to 5 in (12.7 cm)
The slicing grid pressed through an avocado half

How to use it

Ripe avocado to sliced in three moves

  1. 01

    Split it

Draw the serrated edge of the scoop round the avocado, then twist the halves apart.

  2. 02

    Lift the stone

Press the ring down over the stone, twist, and lift it out without a knife.

  3. 03

    Slice and scoop

Push the slicing grid under the flesh from the stalk end and the slices come out of the skin together.

Close up

One tool, three working ends

Avocado slicer measured open at 7.2 in (18.3 cm) and folded at 5 in (12.7 cm)
  1. Slotted scoop

Serrated round the rim to cut through the skin. The holes let the flesh come away cleanly when you scoop.

  2. Stone ring

Press it over the stone and twist. The ring grips the stone so you never point a blade at your palm.

  3. Slicing grid

Pushed under the flesh of a half, it cuts even slices for toast or salad and lifts them out of the skin.

  4. Folded

The scoop swings back over the grid, taking it from 7.2 in (18.3 cm) down to 5 in (12.7 cm) for the drawer.

Tool or knife and spoon?

A chef's knife and a tablespoon will always do the job. The tool earns its place on busy mornings and with children helping.

Plastic edges are kinder to fingers but weaker than steel, so wait for ripe fruit.

Questions

Not well. The serrated edge is plastic, so it splits a ripe avocado easily but struggles with one that is still firm. Wait until the skin gives a little under your thumb.

A single generic tool is cheap, so we sell the pair. Keep one in the kitchen drawer and one with the packed lunches, or give the second away.

Press gently near the stalk. If it gives slightly, the plastic edge will cut the skin cleanly. If it feels like a stone, leave it in the fruit bowl for another day or two.

The scoop works on kiwi and on soft mango cheeks once you have cut them off the stone with a knife. The stone ring is sized for avocados only.

Good for most avocados

Works on most of the avocados I buy. Very large ones are a stretch for the grid, but fine otherwise.

Teen cook approved

My teen makes his own avocado toast now without help. No knife drama, no mess. I'm happy.

Makes salads quicker

Cobb salad needs a lot of sliced avocado and this makes it fast. The slices stay in neat rows. Great.

Gets every last bit

The scoop gets right to the skin so hardly any green is wasted.

Perfect for a small kitchen

Tiny flat, tiny drawer. Folds down to nothing.

Very handy

Handy. Wish the grid had slightly thinner slices.

Hand me down

Gave my old one to my sister and bought this pair. We both use them constantly.

Great with a small catch

Brilliant on ripe avocados. Slightly stiff to fold shut at first, though it eased off after a week.

Fine but I prefer a knife

It works, but I'm quick with a knife and found this slower than my usual method. Might suit people less confident with one. The second one is going to my sister.

Great with ripe, meh with firm

Fantastic on a ripe avocado. On one that was still a bit firm the serrated edge struggled to split it. The description does warn you, so I just wait now. Still lovely otherwise.
