Freehand sharpening on a stone goes wrong the moment the angle wobbles. This kit takes the angle out of your hands: a magnet holds the knife still and you only roll the disc along its edge.
Colour Wood

How to use it
Choose the angle face you want, then press the flat of the blade onto the magnet with the edge facing out and clear of the block.
Hold the block steady and roll the 400 grit end back and forth along the edge until you can feel a slight burr on the other side. Turn the knife over and repeat.
Swap to the 1000 grit end and give each side a few lighter passes to smooth away the burr.
Close up

The coarse 400 grit disc on this end reshapes a dull, rounded edge. The 1000 grit disc on the far end polishes what it leaves behind.
The roller runs on these rings, which keeps it tracking in a straight line along the worktop rather than skating.
Press the flat of the blade against this grey face. Its slope sets the angle printed on it, so every pass meets the steel the same way.
Stands flat on its base. Turn it round to bring the other marked face towards the roller when you change angle.
Compared
A whetstone gives the most control once you have the knack. A pull through is quick but you cannot choose the angle. The roller sits between them.

The lower 15° side suits thin Japanese style blades and slicing knives. The 20° side suits heavier chef's knives and anything you use on squash, bones or hard rinds.
No. The supplier excludes serrated blades and scissors. Use it on straight edged kitchen knives, including hard high carbon steel, which the listing names as a good match.
When a knife starts to squash a tomato instead of cutting its skin, a few passes with the fine disc usually bring it back. A full coarse and fine session is only needed when the edge feels rounded.
Usually the coarse disc has not reached the edge itself yet. Keep rolling the 400 grit end until a small burr forms along the opposite side, then switch to the fine disc.
Yes, if the blade is long enough to sit on the magnet with the edge clear of the block. Short or folding blades are harder to hold steady and may need a second hand on the handle.
