How to use it

Over the sink, then into a drawer

  1. 01

    Unroll it over the sink

Lay it across the bowl so both end links rest on the rim, bars running from front to back.

  2. 02

    Drain on it

Stand washed glasses, rinse salad in a colander on it, or leave a pan to drip. Water runs straight into the sink.

  3. 03

    Roll it away

Shake it off, roll it from one end and put it in a drawer or stand it at the back of the worktop.

Close up

Steel bars, hinged ends

  1. End links

Each bar is held at both ends in a plastic link. The links hinge against their neighbours, which is what lets the whole rack roll up.

  2. Bars

Round steel bars run the full 47 cm. Water drops between them straight into the sink.

  3. Resting edge

The row of links is what sits on the sink rim, so measure for these, not just the bars.

Roll up rack or draining board?

A draining board holds more and drains through a tray. The roll up rack drains straight into the sink and gives the worktop back when the washing up is done.

Questions

Measure the inside of the bowl from rim to rim. The rack is 47 cm long, so it needs a bowl narrower than that with a flat rim on both sides to rest on.

Both are 47 cm long. The 12 bar rack is 23 cm deep and suits a narrow bowl or a drainer; the 15 bar rack is 28 cm deep and covers more of a standard bowl.

The supplier gives no heat rating for the plastic end links, so let pans cool before resting them on the rack, and keep hot bases on the steel bars rather than the ends.

Yes for a stack of dinner plates or bowls across the middle, where the bars are supported at both ends. Do not load the very edge of the rack beyond the sink rim.

Slightly smaller than pictured

Looks a touch smaller in my sink than I pictured, but it works fine for what I need.

Good, a little bendy

Works well but with a heavy load of plates the middle sags slightly between the rims. Still drains fine. I keep the heaviest things near the ends.

Better than a drying mat

Drying mats get damp underneath and smell. This does not, because the water falls straight into the sink.

Rack I can actually hide

My counter space is tiny so a big dish rack was never an option. This goes across the sink, glasses drain right into the bowl, and when I'm done I roll it up and put it in the drawer. The counter is clear again.

Clear counters

A clear worktop matters to me and this gives me that. After supper I wash up, leave things on the rack over the sink to drip, and before bed I roll it away. No more wet draining board.

Sink too wide at one end

My sink has a curved rim in one corner so the end link doesn't sit flat. It works but wobbles a little. Better on a straight sided sink.

Clean and simple

Clean, simple, and it does one job well.

Takes up the whole sink

When it is in place it covers my small sink completely, so I cannot wash at the same time. Handy when I am finished though.

Okay, expected more room

It does what it says. I just expected a bit more room for plates, and I ended up using it only for glasses and veg.

Does the job

Sits on the rim, drains well, rolls up. Done.
