Reheated chilli and beans spit across the microwave the moment they bubble. This collapsible microwave cover sits over the plate with steam holes in its top, then folds down to a flat disc once dinner is out.
Colour Blue

How to use it
Pull the top up so the sides stand at full height, then set it over the plate or bowl in the microwave.
Steam leaves through the holes in the top. When the timer goes, lift it by the slot in the middle and tilt it away from you.
Press the top down and the sides fold flat into the rim. It lives in a drawer, or turn it over first to drain washed fruit.
Close up

A sunken slot in the middle of the top, deep enough for two fingers. Lift the cover by this rather than the hot rim.
Rings of small holes cover the top. Steam from the food gets out here, while the solid plastic between them catches the splashes.
The frosted walls are pleated. Pull the top up and they open to 8 cm; press it down and they collapse into the rim.
A firm coloured ring about 26.5 cm across. It is what sits on the plate or the turntable and keeps the shape round.

Fit
Open, it stands 8 cm tall with a 26.5 cm base, so it suits most everyday plates and bowls.
A plate wider than 26.5 cm is fine too: the cover rests on the plate around the food instead of on the turntable.
Compared
Cling film goes in the bin after one go and an upturned plate traps steam. The cover is reusable, vented and folds away.

The base ring is about 26.5 cm across, so it sits over plates and bowls smaller than that. On a bigger dinner plate it rests on the plate itself, around the food.
Covering food in the microwave is the job the supplier makes it for. They give no maximum temperature, so keep it out of the oven, off the grill setting and away from a hot hob.
Food gives off steam as it heats. Under a sealed cover that steam has nowhere to go, so it lifts the cover or turns crisp edges soggy. The holes in the top let it out while the plastic between them stops sauce reaching the walls.
No. Some covers sold online cling to the microwave ceiling with magnets, and this one has none. It folds to a flat disc and lives in a drawer between meals instead.
Yes. Turn it over, pull the sides open and rinse grapes, berries or salad leaves in it; the water runs out through the holes that are now underneath. Rinse it again before it goes back over a plate.
