Doesn't suit my pans
My pans have a rolled rim with no lip so the clips don't catch properly. Okay on one pot but I wanted it for the lot.

Clip it to the rim, tip the pan over the sink, and the water runs out while the pasta stays in the pan. One less thing to wash.
Colour Green

How to use it
Turn off the heat and press both clips over the rim of the pan.
Hold both handles and pour slowly. The water runs out and the pasta stays behind the strainer.
Rinse it, let it dry, then push the plates together. It goes in a drawer, not on a shelf.
Close up

One at each end. Both hook over the lip, so the two sides share the weight of a full pan.
Five plates overlap. They slide apart for a wide stock pot and close up for a small saucepan.
Long slots at the top of each plate, round holes below. Water gets through. Spaghetti doesn't.

Fit
The clips need a lip to hook over. Most round pans have one.
It's 27.5 cm long, so it covers the side you pour from rather than the whole rim.
Compared
A colander is still the thing for rinsing salad. For draining a hot pan, the strainer means less lifting and less washing up.
| Compared | This productClip-on strainer | Colander | Strainer lid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stored in | A drawer | A cupboard shelf | Its own pan |
| Works with | Most round pans with a lip | Any pan | One pan |
| Both hands on the pan | Yes | No | Yes |
| Washing up | One small piece | One large piece | Part of the lid |
If the pot is round and has a lip for the clips to hook over, yes. Square dishes and pans with a thick, flat edge won't hold it firmly.
Yes. Hold both handles and tip slowly, so the two clips share the weight as the water runs out.
Draining boiling water is its job. Clip it on when you drain rather than leaving it on the pan while it cooks, because the frame is plastic.
Yes, if the pan has a lip. Let the fat cool a little first, then pour it slowly into a heatproof container, never down the sink.
Hold a mug under the lip as you start to tip. The water comes through the slots slowly enough to catch a splash, which a colander never allows.

Excellent for pasta and potatoes. Small gripe, the strainer holes let tiny bits of rice through.

Starch rinses right off the silicone. I dry it and fold it away.

Cooking for three kids means a lot of pasta. This saves me dragging the colander out for every little pot of macaroni, and it's one less thing to wash every night.

The purple has a deep shade that looks great against my steel pots.

Gnocchi are a pain to drain because they stick together in a colander. With this I just tip the water off and they stay in the pan ready for a knob of butter. Brilliant.

Does what it says. Clips on, drains, folds away.

Would've liked more colours, but it works perfectly.

Was worried it wouldn't grip the rim of my big stockpot but both clips hooked right over. Drained a full pound of spaghetti and didn't lose a single strand.
