A fork spears the gherkin you wanted and pushes the olive away. These short tongs close round whatever is floating in the jar, then hold it over the neck while the vinegar drains.

How to use it
Hold the tongs by the closed end and lower the open cups into the jar.
Squeeze gently round an olive, onion or gherkin and lift it straight up.
Pause over the jar for a second so the brine runs back through the holes, not onto the plate.
Close up

Two shallow spoon shapes punched with holes. They cradle round things and let liquid fall straight through.
3.8 cm across at the widest point, slim enough for the neck of an ordinary pickle jar.
One folded strip of steel instead of a hinge, so there is no rivet for vinegar to collect around.
Compared
For a jar of mixed antipasti the tongs win on hygiene; for one wedge of beetroot a fork is fine.

At 18 cm they are kitchen tongs in miniature; for a barbecue you need something far longer.
At 18 cm it reaches the bottom of most standard jars of olives, gherkins and pickled onions. A tall catering jar may need you to tip it slightly.
We could not find a jar fork we were happy to stock, so we chose tongs that do the same job. The cups hold round things a fork would push away.
Yes, they double as small serving tongs for sugar cubes, ice, cherry tomatoes or cocktail onions. The holes stop a puddle forming on the plate.
They are short for a hot pan or grill, which puts your hand close to the heat. Use them cold, at the table or over the jar.

Sample, not realWell made and they work, I just keep forgetting to use them and reaching in with a fork out of habit. Not the tongs' fault.

Sample, not realI put together a lot of charcuterie boards for parties and the pickled stuff was always the messiest part. Now I lift olives, cornichons and pickled peppers straight from the jars with these, let them drip for a second, and they land on the board without a puddle. Guests started using them too instead of their fingers, which I appreciate.

Sample, not realJust had the kitchen done and I am precious about the worktop. These stop brine dripping everywhere. Worth it for that alone.

Sample, not realOne minor thing: the cups do not quite hold a jalapeno slice flat, but they grab a clump. Still very useful.

Sample, not realThey clink against the glass jar when I reach in. Not a problem, only a noise. They still work well.
