How to use it

Breakfast without the frying pan

  1. 01

    Pour in the egg

Beat two eggs with any fillings and pour half into each side of the open case.

  2. 02

    Close it and microwave

Fold it shut and cook in short bursts, checking between each until the egg has set all the way through.

  3. 03

    Tip it onto the plate

Open the hinge and the omelette comes out already folded. For poached eggs, use the insert instead.

What's in the case

Kindral microwave omelette maker in white, open with the egg insert in place
  1. Lid half

The top half folds down over the egg. Half the mixture goes in here, so both sides of the omelette set at once.

  2. Hinge and catch

A long hinge runs across the middle with a small catch to hold it shut while it cooks.

  3. Egg insert

Two round cups sit in the lower half when you want poached eggs. Lift it out for omelettes.

Microwave or frying pan?

A pan gives you browning and a softer centre if you know the timing. The case gives you a consistent shape with nothing to stand over.

Questions

It depends on your microwave and how many eggs you use. Start with short bursts of about 30 seconds and check between each, until no runny egg is left.

Yes. Set the egg insert into the case, crack one egg into each cup and pierce the yolks before you cook them.

A whole yolk heats from the inside and can burst in the microwave. A quick prick with a cocktail stick lets steam out, so it cooks quietly in its cup.

Yes, as long as they are small and already cooked: chopped ham, grated cheese, spinach or peppers. Raw meat will not cook through in the time the egg needs.

The supplier lists the material as PP and marks it for the microwave. It gives no maximum temperature, so keep it out of the oven and away from the grill, and wash it by hand.

Perfect for chives

Chives and a sprinkle of cheese. Hinge keeps the egg inside, no leaks.

One less frying pan

Our dorm kitchen is a microwave and a shared stove that is always taken. Beat two eggs, pour into both sides, fold it shut, short bursts, and the omelette comes out already folded. Spinach and feta is my usual.

Hospital recovery

Home after surgery, standing at the stove was out of the question. This gave me proper meals without much effort. Light enough to lift with one hand. Pour, close, short bursts, check, and tip it onto a plate. Made me feel independent again.

Good with a small reservation

Makes a good omelette and the poach insert is handy. It is a little bit small on the shelf with the other things in my cupboard but at least it is thin.

Lovely, but plain looking

Does exactly what I wanted. Only reason for four stars is that it is just plain white and a bit basic looking, but that is hardly the point.
