Cheese sweats in cling film, and an open pack of chicken thighs takes up half a shelf. Zip them into a valve bag, hold this little pump over the valve, and the bag shrinks tight around the food.

How to use it
Put the food in a bag, lay it flat and press the zip shut from one end to the other.
Stand the nozzle squarely on the round valve and hold it flat, so no air creeps in around the rim.
Press the button once. When the bag has pulled tight around the food, lift the pump off and switch it off if it is still running.
Close up

A see through section above the nozzle. If juice or marinade gets drawn up from a wet bag you can see it here, which is the moment to stop.
The round end stands over the valve on the bag. Hold it square and flat, with a perforated disc set inside it.
One press starts the motor. The supplier rates the suction at 60 kPa, and the light on the button turns red and flashes when the battery runs low.
Compared
Kindral also sells a mini heat sealer. That one closes the packet you already have; this pump needs its own valve bags but takes the air out first.

The mini bag sealer melts the top of a thin crisp or sweet packet shut with a hot strip. This pump does no heating: it pulls the air out of its own valve bags, so meat, cheese and leftovers are packed with the air drawn out.
Only with bags that have a valve for the nozzle to sit on, like the 15 in the box. An ordinary freezer bag has nowhere for the air to leave, so the pump cannot empty it.
Freeze soup or stock flat in the bag first and pump the air out once it is solid. For a marinade, lay the bag flat with the valve on top and stop as soon as liquid appears in the clear chamber.
It charges by USB, so a laptop, a power bank or a phone charger plug will do, and there are no batteries to buy. The light on the button turns red and flashes when it needs topping up.
They work on bags with a valve: the pump draws the air out through it and the valve closes behind. They do not weld a seam like a countertop machine, so press the zip fully shut first or air creeps back in.
