Silicone Spatula Tongs

R199.99

A fish slice works until the fillet slides off halfway through the turn. These tongs have a flat head on each arm, so whatever you lift stays held from above and below until it is back in the pan.

How to use it

Lift, hold and turn

  1. 01

    Slide under

Open the tongs and slide the lower head flat under a fried egg, a pancake or a piece of fish.

  2. 02

    Squeeze to hold

Close your grip so the top head rests lightly on the food. It is held between the two heads instead of balanced on one.

  3. 03

    Turn and lock

Roll your wrist to flip it, set it back in the pan and let go. When you are done, push the slider to lock the heads shut.

Two spatulas on one hinge

  1. Metal hinge

Joins the two arms at the handle end and opens them again when you relax your grip.

  2. Slide lock

Move the slider one way and it hooks the arms together for storage. Move it back and they open freely for cooking.

  3. Catch

The square loop on the other arm that the slider hooks into, so the lock holds without a clip or band.

  4. Flat heads

Both arms end in a thin, flat head with drain holes, so either one can go underneath and oil runs back into the pan.

Compared

Spatula tongs, fish slice or ordinary tongs?

Ordinary tongs still suit sausages and pasta. For anything flat and fragile, the second head is the difference between a turned egg and a broken one.

Questions

A two or three egg omelette in a small frying pan, yes. A wide frittata is too big for the 7 cm heads, so slide that onto a plate and turn it back into the pan instead.

Yes. Push the slider on the handle and the heads stay closed, so the tongs lie flat in a drawer or utensil pot instead of springing open against everything else.

The supplier describes the silicone heads as non scratch for non stick cookware. Keep the metal hinge end out of the pan and avoid scraping burnt bits with the edge.

Fried eggs, pancakes, French toast, fish fillets, burgers, halloumi and slices of aubergine. Anything flat that you would normally lift with a spatula and steady with a fork.
